Today was one of those days where nothing goes right.
Sorry. I shouldn't be so negative. Let's say ALMOST nothing went right.
I messed up an appointment date and we ended up at the oncologists office a day ahead of our appointment. They saw us anyway, and would it have been too much for the receptionist to have accepted blame for my error? :-) She was very smiley when she insisted it was my error. Don't you love that in customer service?
I didn't really understand why we were seeing the oncologist anyway. It seems she and the radiation oncologist both want to manage the Ex's meds.
So, the cute smiley intro nurse who does vitals (they are all cute and smiley; guess working with people with cancer is a cheery sort of career) starts calling the Ex "Mr. Umpteefratz," and how we're going to do vitals before we go see Jane.
I say, "who's Jane?" And they say, "chemo nurse." Then I say, "what did you call him?"
"Mr. Umpteefratz?" smiley Nurse Karen says with no confidence in her reply.
"This is Umpteeother and he doesn't get chemo," I tried to say calmly, but I was REALLY annoyed; annoyed beyond return smilies.
He got his treatment and returned to work for the day. I am greatly relieved that he's not as zoned out as he was yesterday afternoon. Maybe he just OD'd on bean soup afterall, as some cruel-hearted posters here have said. (Pbththth!)
We have decided, as reasonably as we can, that the Ex will look at an open MRI in our community. If he thinks he can tolerate it, he'll have a brain scan; and if nothing's there (ha, my fav joke!), he'll start chemo and see how he tolerates it. If it doesn't hurt too much, we figure, why not try it. So many here have given me so much hope.
The radiation treatment went ok today, I think. The Ex is doing well and it is hours past lunch. 'Course, it wasn't I who fed him lunch today. Maybe that had something to do with it. :-) He lost 2 lbs since last week.... don't even THINK it! My cooking is just fine!
And so, this concludes today's tale of cancer, radiation, chemo, cute smiley Nurse Karen and her cast of merry oncologists.
